What INDEX is, what it is not, what happens with data, and where the lines sit. Written in plain language on purpose; the plain language is the binding language.

INDEX is an independent editorial record of on-chain art. It describes, rates, and documents culture. It is read-only: there are no accounts, and INDEX never holds funds or assets, never executes or brokers a transaction, never takes custody of anything, never asks you to connect a wallet, and never asks you to sign anything. Where INDEX links to a marketplace or any third-party site, the link is a door, not an endorsement, and what happens beyond it is between you and that site.
Nothing on INDEX is financial, investment, legal, or tax advice, and nothing on INDEX is a recommendation or inducement to buy, sell, hold, mint, or bid on anything. Canon tiers, Trust Reports, curatorial reads, collector pages, and every other judgment published here are cultural and editorial judgments only. Price is not a rating input and never will be.
INDEX is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority or any other financial regulator. Digital assets are volatile and can lose most or all of their value. Any decision you make is yours alone, made on your own research.
INDEX takes no fee from any project it covers, sells no placement, and accepts no payment of any kind for ratings or coverage. The people behind INDEX are collectors: they hold, sometimes acquire, and sometimes sell works INDEX covers. Holdings never set ratings. The full doctrine is on the Independence page, and it prevails over any shorter phrasing elsewhere on the site.
INDEX reads public blockchain data and market data supplied by third-party providers. It works to verify before it publishes, and where something cannot be verified INDEX says so rather than guessing. Even so, data can be wrong, incomplete, or stale; coverage is not exhaustive; and judgments can change. Changes to Canon placements are recorded openly rather than edited away. Do not rely on INDEX as your sole source for any decision.
Artworks shown on INDEX remain the property of their artists and rights holders. INDEX displays them, with attribution, for identification, commentary, criticism, and review as part of the record, and claims no ownership of any artwork it covers. If you hold rights in a work and object to its appearance here, contact hello@readindex.io and it will be addressed promptly.
INDEX's own writing, ratings, and design are the property of INDEX. Quote it with attribution freely. Do not republish the record at scale, and do not present INDEX output as your own or as an endorsement of you.
Collector profiles and exhibitions render publicly available blockchain activity associated with a wallet address or ENS name. INDEX does not assert who owns any wallet and draws no conclusions about any person. If a wallet is yours, or you believe a page concerns you, you can ask for it to be corrected or not displayed by writing to hello@readindex.io.
Do not present INDEX ratings as endorsements, financial signals, or paid placement. Do not use the site for anything unlawful. Do not attempt to disrupt, overload, scrape at scale, or interfere with the service or the systems behind it.
INDEX is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, INDEX and the people behind it accept no liability for any loss arising from use of, or reliance on, the site, including collecting or trading losses. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
These terms may change as the service does; the date at the top is the version you are reading. They are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction over any dispute.
INDEX is built to know as little about you as possible while still working. There are no accounts and no profiles of you as a reader.
Lookups you type, a collection name, wallet address, or ENS name, are sent to INDEX's own functions to fetch results from data providers, and results are cached so pages load fast. The hosting layer keeps standard, short-lived server logs. The recent lookups shown on the homepage live only in your own browser's storage, are never sent to INDEX, and clear with one tap.
Where you actively submit something, claiming a profile, registering interest in a work, or following the Canon by email, INDEX stores exactly what you submit, uses it only for the purpose you submitted it for, and every email includes a working unsubscribe. Curatorial reads are generated with a third-party AI provider that processes the public collection and wallet data involved, nothing more.
INDEX runs no advertising trackers and no third-party analytics.
INDEX will not sell, rent, or share individual data. It will not profile you across the web, and it will not run advertising trackers. Taste and behaviour signals, where they exist, belong to the collector they describe: visible to them, correctable by them, private by default.
Blockchain activity is public by design, and INDEX reads it the way anyone can. Where a wallet address can be connected to a person, that data may count as personal data, so the correction and removal route in section 7 applies here too.
Under UK data protection law you can ask for access to, correction of, or erasure of personal data, and you can object to or ask to restrict its processing. Write to hello@readindex.io. If you are unhappy with the answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Caches refresh and expire on their own cycle rather than accumulating forever. Anything you submit is kept only while it is needed for the purpose you gave it, and corrections are honoured.
